FAQ - THE PEOPLE

The People: The Artists who have Contributed to Jekyll

Hundreds of people are involved in the process of producing any show. With many long years of development, J&H has a long, long list of talented individuals who had a part in making the show what it is today. There are naturally far too many people to talk about (or even list) here, but we will try to cover a few of the key players.

The Creative Team

Frank Wildhorn

...conceived J&H with Steve Cuden sometime around 1980. He wrote the music for the show, and is now married to leading lady Linda Eder. At one time Frank had two other shows, The Scarlet Pimpernel and The Civil War, playing alongside J&H in New York - this made him the first American composer in 22 years to have three shows at once on Broadway. He also writes many of the songs for Linda's solo albums, and seems to always have an impressive list of musical projects in progress. Dracula and Camille Claudel are currently among these. Leslie Bricusse

...stepped in to continue work on the book and lyrics for the show, partway through its development. He is a lauded writer-composer-lyricist with many credits on both stage and screen. These include songs for films such as Goldfinger, You Only Live Twice, Doctor Doolittle, Scrooge, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, Home Alone, Hook and Victor/Victoria, and shows including Stop The World - I Want To Get Off, The Roar Of The Greasepaint (The Smell Of The Crowd) and Sherlock Holmes. The Broadway Performers

Robert Cuccioli

...played the roles of Jekyll and Hyde on the first US tour, and then originated the roles on Broadway. He has gone on to direct a few of the regional stagings of the show, since then. To join his fan club, write to

Linda Eder

...played the role of Lucy in the Houston world premiere, the first US tour, and then originated the role on Broadway. Her career started with a long stretch of wins on the Star Search program. She is now a recording artist with Atlantic, and has several solo albums available. She can also be heard on the concept albums for The Scarlet Pimpernel and The Civil War.

"Um, how do you pronounce....?"    Rhymes with 'shredder.'

Christiane Noll

...played the role of Lisa Carew (Jekyll's devoted fiancée) for the first national tour of the show, and then made her Broadway debut in the same role (renamed Emma Carew). She has many other theater credits, before and since, and can be heard on a number of recordings.

To join her fan club, write to Cnollnews@aol.com. Rob Evan

...was first a "standby" (or "matinee guy") for the roles of Jekyll and Hyde, later playing the parts full time. He has also recorded a five-track album with selections from J&H, available only to his fan club members. To join his fan club, write to

Emily Skinner

...was part of the Original Broadway Cast of Jekyll. Credited as Emily Scott Skinner, she played the ensemble role of Alice and understudied both Lucy and Emma. During the previews for the show, Linda Eder fell ill with laryngitis. It was decided that she would go on, but Emily would sing her big songs from off-stage. Linda still performed "No One Knows Who I Am," "Sympathy, Tenderness" and the first portion of "Dangerous Game," with Emily singing others like "Good 'n' Evil," "Someone Like You," "In His Eyes" and "A New Life."

Other Performers

Anthony Warlow

...sang (but never performed on stage) the roles of Jekyll and Hyde for the Complete Work recording. He is a well known singer in the musical and opera world... in Australia, that is. You might have heard him as Enjolras on the Complete Symphonic Recording of Les Misérables. You can also hear his work on other soundtracks and solo albums - again, these are imports you'll have to search for.

"What's this I hear about Anthony Warlow having cancer? / Is this why he didn't do Jekyll & Hyde on Broadway? / Is he doing Jekyll & Hyde in Australia?"    Anthony Warlow DID have lymphoma. Years ago. 1992. Prior to his work on the Complete Work. He's been in remission for years, and the lymphoma has no effect on any of his current decisions. He chose not to perform on Broadway for reasons only he fully knows. He has not announced any plans to appear in the show in Australia.

Chuck Wagner

...was the original Jekyll & Hyde! He was connected to the project at USC, and performed the leading roles in the world premiere at the Alley Theater in Houston, Texas. He later returned to head the cast of the Second US Tour. He is also known for his work in Beauty and the Beast, Les Misérables, Into the Woods, and more. What's the best way to keep up with past performers from the show?

Fans who support Jekyll often follow the careers of the show "alumni" - past cast members from the Broadway or other productions of the show. At this time, there is no central location where the current and upcoming activities of the alumni are posted. Some places you could try checking are websites or fan clubs dedicated to specific performers, theater news sites, or web searches. Enjoy!

How do I get in touch with past performers from the show?

If you want to get in touch with a past performer, the first step is to check for a website or fan club devoted to that person. Some official (and even unofficial) sites have a direct contact e-mail address you can use, or a guestbook or message board where you can leave them a note.

To send "snail mail" to a performer, the most accepted and effective practice is to send your letter in care of a show in which they are appearing. It is best to find a current or upcoming show and send your letter so it will arrive while they are there, and will be for several more weeks (to allow for delivery time). Mail can be addressed in this manner:

Performer's Name
c/o Show Name
Theater Name
Theater Mailing Address
City, State Zip

Will any of the past Jekyll stars perform in the same roles again?

Many fans of Jekyll, both old and new, want to know about opportunities to see previous stars who performed in the show. This happens rarely, and is an exception rather than a rule. Usually, a performer will appear in one production of a show and then move on to other projects. When "alumni" do continue to work on new productions of the same shows, it is usually mentioned prominently in the show announcements (including in the Stagings section of this site, when we know about it). Also keep an eye on theater news sources and performers' websites for updates of this kind.
